My Story
HiMy heart is shared between two beautiful homes—Egypt and New Zealand—and my soul is constantly pulled toward the road less traveled.
Travel, for me, is more than a holiday. It’s a healing, a remembering, and a way of life. It’s taught me that the world isn’t just something we see—it’s something we feel, connect with, and grow from. That’s why I created Travel With Penny—to help others not only see the world but truly experience it.
I've spent the past 25 years journeying through places like Bali, Thailand, and Nepal—sourcing beautiful handmade pieces for my Kaikōura-based store, Gecko Gearz, while building relationships with local families and artisans who inspire me every day.
But my path hasn’t always been smooth. After living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome for five years—and being told I might never recover—I eventually did. That experience transformed how I view health, healing, and the power of slowing down. It also inspired the creation of my Wellness Retreats, where travel meets gentle practices that support the body, calm the mind, and nourish the spirit.
Whether it’s a wellness retreat, a cultural adventure, or simply a soul-stirring escape, the journeys I offer through Travel With Penny are designed to be more than just holidays—they’re about connection, transformation, and truly experiencing the world.
Whatever kind of travel calls to you, you’re welcome here. I keep group sizes small and personal, making room for authentic experiences, spontaneous laughter, and the kind of meaningful conversations that often spark lifelong friendships.
Solo travelers are especially welcome. Many people join my trips alone and leave feeling part of something much bigger—a travel family. These journeys are inclusive and open to all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels. Whether it’s your first time stepping out into the world or your fiftieth, there’s a place for you here.

EMPOWERING TOOLS FOR WELLBEING
These Wellness Retreats have come about due to my own personal health journey. A few years ago I recovered after suffering through 5 years of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, despite being told by my doctors I would never recover. I often reflect on this time and wish I knew then what I now know about my body and mind and the ways I could have overcome the challenges CFS often creates in our lives. Whilst we explore Egypt, I also will take you on a journey where you can discover some easy practices that you can add into your daily routines. Our yoga will be gentle and easy, perfect for beginners and I will be incorporating breathing to calm the nervous system. I will guide you through many tips and ways to help reduce stress and anxiety, sleep better, gain more flexibility in your body and just have that overall sense of calmness. I can not imagine a better way to do that, then while exploring the beautiful country and people of Egypt. Return home feeling relaxed, refreshed and empowered.

I have done previous yoga classes but have always struggled with my technique.Penny gave me helpful cues right through our session and made sure I was in the correct position plus lots of tips and helpful information to make sure I keep progressing with my training.
